The Erie SeaWolves are the AA-Affiliate of the Detroit Tigers baseball team. My front office role encompassed a variety of tasks related to content creation, production, and team coordination, all aimed at enhancing the fan experience and promoting the team. Browse this page to explore some of the projects I did for the SeaWolves in the '24 season.
Making graphics promoting our promotional giveaways for the '24 season was one of the first projects I was assigned for my internship. These graphics were made using Adobe Photoshop and displayed on the UPMC Park video and ribbon boards, front office TVs, and on our broadcast.
These intro videos were played right before the SeaWolves Players took the field to start the game. My goal while editing them was to create an electric atmosphere in the ballpark, energizing both the crowd and the team. I edited these videos using Adobe Premiere Pro. All included footage was either b-roll footage that I filmed myself or from our broadcast.
Similar to my intro videos, these two rally videos were made to hype up the crowd and the SeaWolves players during the mid-inning break before the bottom of the ninth inning. These videos also use my footage and video from the team broadcast.
This graphic was displayed pregame as the umpires took the field. The public address speaker would introduce the umpires as this graphic and a similar video overlay I created were displayed on the video board.
I created a series of "Fauxback Fax" for our new Fauxback Funday promotion. Every Sunday, the team and ballpark would be transformed, embracing the classic roots of America's favorite pastime. These fun facts would be displayed in between innings to keep the crowd engaged.
These two welcome graphics were made for theme nights at UPMC Park. Using Adobe Photoshop, my objective was to create appealing and engaging welcome graphics for the video board to be displayed pre- and in-game.
In addition to the main video board in UPMC park, there is a ribbon board at the top of the Erie Insurance Arena in left field. When creating video board graphics, I often made a ribbon board graphic to accompany it. Creating these graphics was challenging at times due to the limited space affecting the readability of the graphics.
There are times during a baseball game when filler content is necessary. A mid-inning pitching change is considered one such time. So, continuing a tradition started by last season's intern, I created these "meme videos" to be played when the visiting team has a pitching change. The objectives of these videos are to keep the crowd engaged and distract the visiting team. These videos were my favorite projects of my internship, and I received lots of positive feedback from fans, staff, and players.
During the game, we typically ran three sponsored promotional games. These games would change day-to-day depending on theme nights, weather, and other circumstances. When new games were introduced, I created game graphics and accompanying lower thirds in my game-day preparations before first pitch.
Using stock footage from Envato, I created these crowd prompts to be played in-game. Often, the prompts aligned with each game's theme. These projects were edited using Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects.
On media day, players were asked in video interviews various questions related to theme nights we were planning for the '24 season. When those nights approached, I cut apart the interviews and stitched them together based on the questions so we could play them in games.
I created video ad reads and programmed them into our video board to break up the monotony of reads coming from our public address speaker.
My primary game-day duty was writing the PA script. Using the rundown created by my boss as a guide, I wrote ad reads, updated changed information in reads used previously, and organized the order of the script. Attached are a few examples of reads that we would use.
Another duty of mine was to accompany the SeaWolves' front office to community events and appearances. At these events, I took pictures and interacted with the community to spread the word of all the family-friendly fun that be happening at UPMC Park over the '24 season.
